Quitting alcohol is not easy to do, especially without professional help. Even if you are a moderate drinker it is hard to quit because the temptation of alcohol is everywhere and drinking is socially acceptable in most cases. If you think about it, most social functions have alcohol at the core of them, whether it is a birthday party, a holiday celebration, or even a simple work get-together.
Quitting alcohol is worth the effort. There are so many benefits that once you become “dry”, you’ll never want to look back again!

The Benefits of Quitting Alcohol

Here are some of our favorite reasons to say no to booze.

  1. You’ll never have to deal with a hangover or other negative consequences of drinking. Gone are the days of feeling miserable because of drinking too much the night before. When you are hungover, you can feel a range of negative things ranging from nausea and vomiting to intense anxiety and sleeplessness. It sounds miserable because it is. If you don’t drink, it simply won’t happen. Same goes for doing things you regret because of alcohol intoxication. If you stay away from booze, it won’t happen anymore. Stop drinking and every day will start of fresh and happy instead of sick and confused.
  2. You’ll save money. If you have a regular drinking habit, the amount of money you spend on alcohol is scary. Even if you try to save by drinking at home, you’ll still end up spending thousands of dollars per year on alcohol. If you go out, considering that one drink can cost you ten dollars, even if you have two or three, by the end of the night you are forking out a good chunk on alcohol. At the least, say you spend ten dollars on a bottle of wine to have at home each night. That equals to $310 dollars a month, and $3,720 per year! That is enough for a downpayment on a car!
  3. Your body will thank you. Aside from no more hangovers, your overall health will improve. The fact of the matter is that alcohol is bad for you no matter how you cut it. The only way to drink in a healthy way is to drink moderately, which means less than one drink per day. Any more than that can cause major problems with your liver and heart. Your sleep will be low quality, and your hair and skin will be dry and fragile. Once you quit, you’ll notice that you’ll have more energy and feel better overall. Your immune system will also be stronger to fight off things like colds and the flu.
  4. Your relationships will improve. People with drinking problems tend to make alcohol their number one thing in life, and as a result, personal relationships suffer. If you drink a lot, you might turn into a totally different person after a few drinks, causing people to alienate themselves from you. You may even start fights or cause real problems when drunk, and no one wants to continuously be around that. If you drink too much, relationships with your friends, spouse, family, and children can suffer, and only quitting can help that.

Quitting alcohol is one of the best things you can do to improve your quality of life almost immediately. If you think that you have a problem with alcohol, seek professional help. You aren’t on your own, many people have overcome alcoholism before you, and will continue to do so after you. It is important to realize that booze does not need to be a part of your life, and that you’ll actually probably be a whole lot better off without it.
